Can be had is both coupe and soft top, some even come with a hard top.
Can be either manual or smg.

Pick a decent one up for about 8-9k

I have loved my M3s, woudn't buy a cab though, but think I would go for something like this..

That's a nice one. Is there any particular reason to have a Gen 2 Boxster over the Gen 1 Boxster though? Also, would an SLK be a contender or is that a bit of a hairdresser's car?

RMS was sorted from 2007.

Plus it will always hold its value better imho.

RMS was never the issue. IMS was and that was only 'sorted' from 2010 onwards.

Yeah, sorry, IMS.
I thought it was from 2007, but it was from Aug 08 builds with the newer engines where it was sorted.

I thought the DFI engines only came in alongside the Gen2/Facelift/PDK-type models? Anything before that had various improvements throughout the Boxster's life, but the IMS problems were never resolved fully until the Gen2 - which I thought was 2009 release.

Either way, I'd suggest a Boxster too. Gen1 987 looks nicer.

That's what I thought, but when looking at them recently it seemed many said it was sorted 2008 for MY09 build.

Sorry guys - can you run me through those acronyms - I'm a Boxster newbie. I'm thinking of a 986 2004 so grateful to hear about any issues with these and things to look out for on a used car inspection.

£10k is arguably too much for a 2004 986. I've had 2. The exception being if it were a very good Anniversary model with lots of big recent work.
