New car! - VW Polo 6n2 1.4 16v

Picking up my 'new' car tomorrow! Bodywork is in a fair condition, one small dent on offside wing. Engine is in poor condition, may need a replacement, but then again the car has only cost £150!

How it broke: Last owner saw the 'oil service' light, and decided to just add a litre of oil to the engine. :s Now has misfire on cylinder 1, and oil has come out of the spark plug hole.
So I have a few options:
-Rebuild engine with new seals and hope it solves the problem

-Find another 1.4l engine to put in

-Or put in a slightly bigger engine, maybe a 1.6 Gti engine ;D

If anyone thinks it could be solved easier than this please tell me, would save quite a bit of time.

Looking for a drop in replacement, although if i'm swapping the engine anyway I might as well go big ;D

Oil service light just means it due a service and as for the plug hole filling with oil may just be a small leak, sounds like a good buy

Car has a misfire on at least one cylinder, thinking the spark plug is covered with oil? Might get away with just rebuilding the top end and replacing all the seals.

The oil in the plug holes will cause it to misfire clean and dry them out check the plugs and retest it

Thinking the seals may have gone, a top end rebuild is cheaper than a new engine I suppose, especially if I do it myself will try cleaning them tomorrow when I pick it up, easier to drive it home than drag it

Wow, for £150 that is a bargain, even if you do have to drop in another engine.

Clean the plugs up, try again. If still no luck try a fresh coilpack - sometimes if they get grounded out they'll burn up. I'm betting that'll sort it.

Excess oil can sometimes pop the valve cover gasket. This will be where the oil in the plug wells has come from. Replace the gasket and remove the oil from the plugs. Clean the coilpacks and plugs up and it should be fine.
