Cayenne 3.2 for sub £9K- would you?

Putting aside the aesthetic 'issues', would any PHers consider this a decent vehicle?

At this price point there are examples with good history and sensible miles.

Car wouldn't do too many miles under my ownership (approx 5K per year).

The alternative option for me is an L322 Range Rover 3.0 TD6. This would be approx £9K for a good history/ miles car, but is it more likely to go wrong than the Cayenne?

Im sure both are expensive for bits, but then hopefully my low annual mileage will keep costs down.

I am looking for one soon, done a bit of research as well. Things to look out for cooler pipes, prop shaft. So as by then, it should have been done going for a 06/07 model

I am also considering one of these and was looking at the 4.5V8 but my brother in law has a turbo and knows his st about cars - he suggested that this engine has issues with bore scoring from about 60k, cooler pipes and also the propshaft issue (although this can be fixed for a few hundred apparently)

The smaller engines probably couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding and I have a 5.0 V8 300bhp car currently so don't want anything slower.

I think a turbo is the way to go, but that then pushes above my £10k limit = perhaps a Touareg would be a better bet.

For £11k you could have my 72k mile Turbo which isn't underpowered like the 3.2 and doesn't score its bores like the 4.5. MPG will be much of a muchness across all the range.

Have you seen the MPG on the Turbo's? I hate people who harp on about MPG but it's in Super Car territory, lucky to get teens with a heavy foot!

I have a turbo, i have a heavy foot, i get 16mpg all day long. On 5k per year it makes sod all difference.

Exactly the same for my Turbo. 16mpg with a mixture of town and country driving with a very occasional motorway journey. The 3.2 may be quoted in the low 20s, but as it's woefully underpowered you constantly have to drive it harder which negates any saving. If you're considering buying a 2.5 tonne Porsche then you really should not be in a position to have to worry about £300 extra in fuel per annum.

Two apologies, firstly the person I know who runs a Turbo, actually runs a Turbo S, and that's where I got my information from. Secondly, I didn't read the 5k comment and agree, the MPG isn't worth worrying about.

Two points for you OP...
Firstly man maths will easily allow for another 2k to buy a Turbo.
Secondly, this is Pistonheads...buy a Turbo
