I had my bike stolen several weeks ago which had my cherished plate on it.

I'm getting some confused advice here - some from my insurers and some from the DVLA.

Obviously I know that I should trust the DVLA on this, but I'm asking if anyone else on PH has ever gone through the procedure to retrieve the plate.

It would appear that I simply write to them (the DVLA) and tell them that I'd like the plate back in 12 months time and send them a letter from my insurers stating that they have no interest in the plate.

Is it really that simple? No forms and stuff? confused

I'm surprised. The DVLA have no interest in whether the vehicle is stolen or not, just that there is only one on the road with that registration.

Pretty much. The DVLA will only release the plate once the bike is either recovered or 12 months has passed.

Had the sames issue when my car was stolen and only the engine turned up. Was a little more complex as it was a lease car so I needed the lease company and the insurance company to give me letters saying they had no interest.

Interestingly, ever since I've had the occasional issue when coming to sell cars my plate has been on as the plate seems linked to the stolen car even though the insurers changed the plate to the original when the DVLA agreed to give me it back.

The waiting is a pain in the ass.....
