Replacement MAF not recognised - should be plug and play?

As above really. The MAF on my van (Renault Master) wasn't registering any air flow when hooked up on diagnostics after losing power.
I bought a replacement one (identical part no.) but when fitting it, it's making the dashboard look like a festive tree - as though it's not recognising it, lighting up all sorts of symbols?
Am I wrong in thinking that these should just be plug 'n play?

Should be plug and play, yes.
Worth noting that your diagnostic tester may not receive the MAF value for this particular application (I.e. The MAF might have been fine). One of my diagnostic tools doesn't show throttle position in some cars, for example. Well, it shows it but the reading is constantly 0.
Anyway, should be plug and play but likely there's a fault logged if Maf was faulty. Worth clearing the fault but engine should pick up the new Maf and work anyway.
Renault dash lights will light up in particular patterns indicating particular faults. I recently diagnosed a short to earth on the fuel pressure sensor using just this feature. Ergo, which combination of lights are lit up on the dash is telling you something.
