Ending car finance question

Mods please move if I've put this in the wrong forum.

Mrs AGee has a car which is on PCP. My wife rang up earlier to get a price to hand it back. The chap gave her a fee, but said that settling this way could affect her credit rating? Is this true?

Apparently it can affect your ability to get car finance again, but not actually affect your credit rating. He's probably just trying to scare you into keeping it. I'm VTing mine soon too.

He suggested selling it privately and then ending the finance, which to me sounds pretty much the same thing but more hassle!
