Work need a new pool car... £10k, 30k miles, diesel...

Passat / Touran are currently top of the list I think. For some reason the powers above love the VAG reliability reputation.... I'd prefer a Volvo.

Needs to basically do as much MPG as possible and have a massive boot, capable of swallowing 2 sample bags, or some pro skaters luggage and boards, whilst comfortably seating 5.

10 grand max, 30k miles max, diesel, as new as possible.

Any suggestions outside the obvious Passat / Touran / V70? Preferably pretty bulletproof as well.... possibly an Accord diesel wagon?

I'd guess you would get more for your money buying an Octavia over a Passat?

Our pool car fleet has just had an injection of Skoda Superb 1.6 diesels.

I hate them, big, slow but good mpg and fairly comfortable on a motorway...

Whilst I have no connection to the one linked, I do actually have one as a family barge and it is fantasic - perfect tool for the job, fully toyed up and great to drive. I hope you are both very happy together!

Would it not make more financial sense to hire / short term lease a car / cars when they are needed rather than tying up £10k of company money that could be used to increase sales / invested productively?

Obviously a little analysis would need to be completed to work out the overall costs / benefits, but as the nature of a pool car is that they are usually stood waiting to be used, neglected and not well looked after, an older car is going to be relatively expensive to keep running. A rental is only paid for when needed, needs no maintenance and is going to be in good condition and regularly checked.
