Porsche 911 Turbo - I don't get it.

Firstly I'd like to say I'm a huge 911 fan! I love the fact they can do everything, daily shopping, school run, B-Roads, track days... everything.
However I don't understand why you'd want the 911 Turbo???
If you want to cruise around, top down in a very good sports car - 911 C2S convertible.
Or if you prefer coupes' - 911 C2S coupe
Or if you live somewhere snowy and only want 1 car - C4s coupe
If you want more of a drivers car, and maybe do a track day or two. - 911 GT3
If you do a lot of track days but only want one car. - 911 GT3 RS (When they release it)
If you don't like your life very much, and want to die in a news worth fashion - 911 GT2 (If they make it)
But why would you want to spend a lot more money on the turbo? What does it do that none of the others do?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the GT3 is faster. So if you want speed/bragging rights you'd get that.

If you want to get form London to Milan as fast as possible in a Porsche, You'd take a turbo. Immensely fast but also a very nice interior and not too noisy and harsh riding.
Trying to do it in a GT3 would be.. interesting.. very loud, very bumpy and I'd imagine quite tiresome
ETA - Personally, I'd still take the GT3.. Just have to make a few more stop offs and find some better roads

I kind of see your point. I'm a huge 911 fan, will own one (one day) but, like you, have little love for the Turbo. I know where you're coming from.
Carrera S would be great, GT3 amazing. Driven Turbo and Turbo S but I still prefer GT3 (non RS) and CS. GTS is a great all rounder too.

But if you were going from London to Milan wouldn't you want a convertible? And then you looking at a huge chunk more than the C2S or a GTS (good shout on the GTS btw I forgot about that).
On a long haul like that would you really feel/be able to use the extra power. For me at least the extra power is desirable when on a track, but if your on a track you want the GT3....

because none of the other 911's (ignore the GT2 as that's imo still a turbo) have the same level of gut wrenching acceleration. the paper figures make the GT3 look about as fast however the feeling of acceleration is totally different. basically you get all the plus sides of the C2S but with more power
if i was to have a 911 my first choice would be a GT3 but if i was to use it every day then a Turbo would be ideal. though i do agree the GTS looks to be the sensible choice and ticks most boxes

Yes but in the Turbo it isn't always more. You loose something, in the 997 generation the 4WD system means you lost some of the light footedness of the C2S. Yes it was ultimately faster, but (in my opinion at least) it lost some of its poise and precision. And it got heavier, and the boot is smaller.
I'll admit I haven't yet driven the 991 turbo yet, I'm guessing its better.
But in the older turbos you had a bit of turbo lag too, a thing of the past now I admit.

- I feel I'm gradually becoming less and less popular. lol
GT3 is not quicker than a turbo. They are evenly matched but I think the turbo just sneaks it across all recent release.(996 - 991)
The turbo is a fantastic car. Very quick, very comfortable and can do what its competitors can do every day without any problems.
Not everyone wants to the ring the neck out of their car to get from a - b quickly. The turbo will do it with relatively little effort.
