After getting caught up in the traffic in London after the state opening of parliament yesterday, car was running on fumes and I had no option but to use the Gulf garage in Sloane Avenue, SW3.

£1.79 per litre.

That's right, £1.79 per litre.

Just put enough in to take me to the next station.

That has to be a record surely?

Not quite the same as it was for a higher spec of fuel but the BP in Newport Pagnell (near Aston Martin) used to sell BP Ultimate 102 at £2.42 per litre (£11 per Gallon).

The last time I was up in Durness, fuel was about 30p per litre more expensive than it was where I live. Probably not as expensive as what you paid, but it's not Knightsbridge eitherlaugh

Yeh saw this at a BP near Gants Hill on the A12 in Essex.

Was tempted to try some but just couldn't get my head round the price.

When we had a fuel shortage didn't some independent garage owner put his price up to £1.99 for the weekend?
