advice needed, insurance claim
Discussion
Hi, not sure how this one is going to go! My other half scraped the bumper of another parent's car on the school run 3 months ago, minor damage to both cars, both cars sustained superficial scratches to rear bumpers. I suggested I would pay for a smart repair to the other mum's car rather than involve insurers, and this was accepted as a plan, turned out it was going to be too much of a pita for her so she decided to go main dealer. Not sure what's gone on in the interim but now have her quote from Mercedes which is for circa 1.2k with 5 days car hire at £180 per day...
Planning to discuss with our insurer, and have all emails including images of damage, and hopefully let them sort it out.
What kind of response should I be expecting?

What are they planning to do? Respray the whole rear end of the car and fit a new bumper?
Being a main agent I imagine they are going to remove the old one, put it in the skip and order in a new one and all the parts that go with it ad main agent prices. If they originally agreed on a SMART repair, find a mobile one and send them to their house. That cant be too 'inconvenient' then.
The best thing you can do is compile everything you have (As you have suggested) and let the insurers deal with it if the third party if that is what the third party want to do.
You may find the insurer will request other quotes for the work if they feel the original quote is excessive for the repair of the damage.
Feel free to DM me if you have any further questions
