When and how do you actually drive your cars?
Discussion
I drive my car when I need to...either to go to work, to drive to the shops, to drive to my parents.
How...well, I get in, I start the engine, I put on my seatbelt, I push the clutch peddle with my foot...etc etc etc
Na, just joking. I drive with fuel effiency in mind, but with safety first. That dosnt mean hovering over the brakes all the time, sometimes it requires a good thrash to get out of harms way. I like to have a bit of fun too but it's not on my priorities, I have a motorcycle for automotive pleasure seeking.

The MX5 gets driven to work, back again, to the shops, to visit family/friends, to do practical things.
The RX7 gets driven to visit people (generally my mechanic), but mostly when I just feel the need to go fast loudly or when I think Shell could do with selling another £80s worth of petrol. Also when my OH forgets what it's like being a passenger in it and asks if we can go somewhere in 'the nice car'.
I would like to say I pick ideal times to take either out, but I don't.

I only ever drive between 23:00 and 03:00 and drive in a style very similar to that of Dominic Toretto.
In reality... I don't have a standard driving time and like to think my driving doesn't stir any emotion from anyone and therefore doesn't have a classification other than 'boring'.

Monday is a 4 hour drive from Liverpool to London.
Tue/Wed it is parked in a hotel car park.
Thursday is a 4 hour drive from London to Liverpool. Sometimes it's a 5 hour trip as I divert into Wales and have a bit of fun on the way home.
Friday it is parked at home, with me looking forlornly at it from the (home) office window.
Weekends are for the Lakes, the Dales, the Peak District, or Wales.
Do 20k+ commuting, and 5k+ for hooning - including a couple of track days and Ring trips each year.
The commute is mostly motorway, and (traffic permitting) I keep to a steady speed.
The weekend hoons are usually started early (weather permitting) and I'll get in 100 miles before the fast roads get busy, and then switch to the smaller B, unclassified routes which are slower but empty.

I find it necessary to have the occasional burn at the weekend without
1. The pious speed limit imposing commute drivers in front
2. The huge line of cars behind the berk positioning him/herself ready to turn right four miles ahead
3. The in car speed and acceleration passenger seat meter squealing when the car pulls anywhere near 1G: forward, backward or lateral acceleration.
Other than that: normal commute, Sat shop, Sunday pootle all done relatively sedately

I drive when I need or want to go somewhere.
I drive as smoothly as I possibly can and as quickly as the conditions allow. During the day it is impossible to drive anywhere off the motorway at more than 35mph so I concentrate on maximising fuel economy to give me something to focus on.

The BMW gets driven to all of my customer visits (when I'm not on the train), usually at a steady cruise along a motorway. I also use it for tip runs, long journeys to see friends, and any time it's raining or I need a car with boot-space. It's usually pretty sedate but it packs a reassuringly torquey wallop for when I need it. I'd estimate about 20k a year.
The MR2 gets used for trackdays, driving holidays, car shows, journeys to the office (on the odd day I'm in the office and the sun is out) and when I'm bored of a weekend and miss the sound of a supercharger whining away merrily behind my head. It's insured for 5k a year and usually does slightly less than this.

My 328i sits on the side of the road 6 days of the week.
When I drive it on the Friday I don't go above 3k rpm until I know it's properly warm then it gets hooned.
It also gets taken back to my parents once a month (90 mile trip) where it gets hooned up every slip road and off every roundabout.
I don't drive it enough really.
