I was stuck in traffic next to a flat-bed lorry carrying one of these today.

I didn't think tractors could be cool, but I have to say that in the flesh it looked more desirable than most modern cars I see on the road. Great colour, nice detail, looked well-made. I think I might want one.

The first thing I ever drove with power steering was a New Holland tractor. It took me by surprise how light it was.

I'm thinking insurance and tax would be cheap. They run on red diesel don't they?

Is it legal to carry the wife and kids in the cab?

Only legal to use red diesel if it is actually an agricultrual vehicle or is never used on the road at all. A privately owned tractor would have to be run on regular pump diesel or other duty paid suitable diesel.

my brother in law has 3 of the Fendt 724s. absolutely amazing bits of kit. with GPS integration, they can drive themselves. has a 2nd seat as well for wife / child or dog.

There was a teenager featured on the news a couple of years back (think it may have been Nottingham are) who had a tractor to get around as it meant he could get around (and in town speed wasn't an issue) as otherwise he couldn't afford insurance on a car...

Downside was that it was a single seater and had no cab... so he didn't really attract the girls... biggrin

Same here (except it was a Massey Fergusson), did my tractor test at 16 so was the first one of any of my mates to have a driving licence biggrin As the only other vehicle I regularly drove at that age was a 110, a tractor with air conditioning and an air suspension seat was luxury in comparison, and very easy drive even with 64 gears.

Where I grew up great big fck off Case IH were the tractors to have, and cost serious money.

Shouldn't be too long for Silent1 to arrive with his tractor porn photos...
