Tracing an old car back
Discussion
Right - a little background, my granddad passed away 10 years ago, when I was young, and although I was young I have many fond memories - especially on long drives and trips to the coast - plus me driving in it for the first time.
When he died his car was sold to my cousin as we all kinda wanted it kept in the family - however he sold it shortly after (bit disheartening considering how much it meant to us)
its in no way a valuable car - it was a Citroen ZX.
I thought that was the end of it - however today whilst clearing out the loft I found an old pic of it and could just make the registration out and I would love to see its whereabouts and if its still on the road etc
I have done 'mycarcheck' and it seems I have the plate correct, but are there any websites to find out further info - iv heard of 'drive archive' and using the RAC website?
Anyway its N882 AKK and yes its a cool story bra.
Thanks.

You can do a DVLA vehicle check to see if it's still taxed or SORN - that will give a clue to whether it's still "alive".
You can get a form from DVLA to request keeper details, but you have to have a "good reason" - no idea if nostalgia counts.
Ok thank you, what would be a good reason lol? ideally id like to buy the car or If its possible to buy the numberplates etc? You can get a form from DVLA to request keeper details, but you have to have a "good reason" - no idea if nostalgia counts.
Thanks.

Thank you,

Is it possible to purchase a registration number that used to be on a vehicle, even if that vehicle no longer exists?
Unfortunately, we cannot resurrect old registrations for sale, even if they are no longer on a vehicle. Should this situation change, we will ensure that full details appear on this website. You may email us with your contact details and we will let you know if there are any policy changes (see How do I contact DVLA?).
