I had a call off a woman today who wanted to come view my car, all was going well.

She'd bought mer mum with her which was fine, until she stared saying she would offer half of the asking price and no more! Is she stupid?! I have no idea why she would think i would accept that little.

She then turned to point out all if the negatives and call me a stuck up to**er for not accepting her price, before telling me about a much better car she'd seen for the same price I was asking. I told her to go buy it and so she huffed off.

If selling a car is always this bad, I'll take a hit and use WBAC! furious

Multiply that by ten and you get an average day in the motor trade.

When selling my cayman S recently I had a few cheeky offers, I think it's par for the course, although it is a tad annoying when they seem to think they're doing you a favour.

Thing is I sold it to a dealer to save the hassle, I sold it for two grand more than I got offered privately.

i sold my car listed all faults, let the buyer drive inspect fully, scan etc.

he then came to price and gave me a figure, i accepted. Money is nice but dealing with a human being is much better and i parted happy.

Problem is too many people watch things like wheeler dealers, counting cars, fast n loud etc. Everybody thinks every seller is trying to fleece them and that they the customer are always right.
Mate of mine always puts in his ads `no offers whatsoever, so if you don`t want to pay what i`m asking don`t come`
Anytime he sells a car, which is often as boredom factor sets in, he gets it fully serviced, timing belt, even if it ain`t due, fluids, everything, has it professional valeted and makes sure there`s a minimum of half a tank of fuel and people still find something to complain about.

Selling my wife's 2006 Zafira that had very low mileage, great condition etc I had all the numpties.

One guy brought his whole family 60 miles in the pouring rain and his body's shop mate spent 25mins examining the body work. Wasn't interested in the FSH or taking it for a drive or even starting it up.

While the numpty twins got on with trying to check for stone chips and orange peel in a typhoon in the dark I had a chat with his wife who told me the car was for her to use in her childminding business. 4 weeks of that and the body work would be showing signs of use. They wanted an 8 year old car.

I had another one on the phone at 10pm."what your best price for car, I come now.?"

"where are you calling from?"

"heathrow"

"I"m near Manchester, even if you set off now you'd be lucky to get here by 2am!"

"You give me best price I come now"

I put the phone down.

Sold it to a local lady for full asking price then next day. She got a great deal.

....
Mike Brewer never gets anything knocked off!

I think it's more like they've been watching "The Apprentice" without realising how staged it all is.

Aaaah, Mike "'old aaaaht yer 'aaaaand" Brewer. The chap who really honestly genuinely found a lobotomised plum willing to give away a Boxster S that only needed an ATF change to fix its gearbox problems for £1500......

The cars also get "sold" to members of the crew, and then end up for sale elsewhere on the interweb.

Anyone who falls for this as anything more than entertainment is an idiot.

Was selling an old Land Rover 101 years ago. Bloke flew from Germany, then got the train to nearish me and I picked him up from the station to have a look. It was only up for £3k or something and he offered exactly half. I walked in my house and closed the door - he didn't knock and we live in a pretty rural location, so I've no idea how he found his way back to the station (the 101 ended up going to Africa as a safari wagon).

The owner came on here...it really did only need an oil change.

Genuinely shocked. Wouldn't you try that before chucking £4k+ down the toilet?

I must admit, when selling there have been times when I've also walked into the house without a word, it doesn't matter how far they've come to take the piss; they've still come to take the piss. There's also been times when buying that I've not had enough to meet the asking price (or they've overvalued it), but I've always told them my absolute maximum before going to look, it's surprising how much some people will drop if you're honest and upfront (and don't waste their time before making a low offer). One line that rubs me up wrong is "it cost £xx new", "is it still new?" I usually answer, because if it isn't then it's irrelevant.

This woman had come from 20 minutes away and was complaining how far she'd had to come! laugh
