A basic, honest daily driver.....

I'm probably going to get laughed out the forum here...but here goes :-)

What do you think of the Dacia Sandero - not as your main car of course :-) , but something to be used as a reliable, cheap daily driver you will get years of service from - really to avoid putting miles on your muscle car you may have in the garage for weekends.

Its only £5995 for a new car, 3 yr warranty etc.....

In keeping with the minimalist theme you would NEED to go for the ultra low spec Access model of course....

What do you think?

From what I've read, it's a perfectly decent car.

I can't imagine ever buying one over something second-hand and Japanese, though.

Not too sure James...I have no idea why, but personally it is kinda like driving an ultra bland car in the week will sort of really make you appreciate whatever special car you may have sat in the garage...

Loving the logic!! Drive an absolutely mind-numbing, uninspiring and possibly irritating vehicle then jump in a TVR or whatever at the weekend

Think a Micra might be better as the boring car though as they cost f all and can be abused with wanton disregard.

Its almost so damn basic and uncool...it almost has gone full circle and in doing so is quite cool < in my mind at least.

They kinda remind me of those £20 microwaves you can buy from Aldi..

It's got a certain appeal but ultimately I'd still buy something lightly used and better equipped for the same money.

I thought the same. Until my daily was damaged in an accident and I was 4 months without. I had an Insigna in the meantime which completely sapped away my love for driving (the crash probably didn't help either - I still don't enjoy driving on the road much anymore! I simply do not trust other drivers at all). I'd rather spend a little more on an enjoyable, exciting daily drive than a mundane one that doesn't inspire me.

That's Audi A8 money (it won't be a minter, but then I doubt any Dacia will ever be that brand new). If I were commuting daily, I know where I'd rather sit.

It's not a bad idea, but losing, say, £2000 in a Dacia the instant it rolls off the forecourt and knowing that you've just paid that to drive what will be a terrible car (overall, not necessarily for the money) a few hundred feet will probably rankle.

Get something used and boring (like the aforementioned A8, or a nice Mondeo with some toys and a diesel engine). That way, you'll still appreciate a Caterham at the weekends, but you won't hate your commute quite so much.

Sandero is a perfectly fine little box on wheels but I can't help but wonder if they actually sell *any* of the £5995 version - it's only £600 or so more for the next model up which is far more equipped (and I'm pretty sure they're cheaper on PCP than the base model!)

As a run around, local use, keep it 10 years, I can't go badly wrong can it? The most you can loose isn't very much.

tis a nice enough car, but save yourself 3-5 grand and get an early 00s civic/toyota, no issues , no hassles and less to depreciate and spend on in the first place

A few weeks back I paid just over £4.5K for an '03 66,000 mile 4.2 petrol A8 - I know where I'd rather sit too!

You can get a second hand 100 hp one and a packet of ear-plugs for maybe the same price as that, or a brand-new 60 hp one for the same price?
