£2000 for something fun/different?

Hi All,

recently had to sell my alfa spider to fund something else which i was gutted about, so i am currently without a car.

roughly have about £2000 cash for a new car but dont want to get back into a boring old vectra or something.

Requirements are

£2000 or less
Either fun to drive or reasonably quick
Nice interior (ie no 90s jap interior)

thats about it really,

have been looking at 3 series coupes for this price although all high mileage i hear the petrol engines are fairly bulletproof

This time last year I was banging about in a Pug 2.0 Hdi. What it did, it did really well, but I was commuting 5 miles a day so the diesel economy and getting good mpg wasnt an issue for me.

I figured that petrol's not really going to get any cheaper so before it goes up more I should go for a V8. I've never owned one before, and looked at Range Rovers, Mercs and settled on an S Type.

280 bhp, 0-60 in about 6.something and top speed of 150 (though I never really got much past 3 figures)

Best I've got mpg was about 32, cruising at 65 on a long run. It's quiet, comfy and poky enough when needed, much better at acceleration whilst moving then off the lights

For the 3-series, if you're interested in ability rather than looks, consider a 325ti. Often lower mileage than the coupe equivalents because of the general ownership profile but 330i performance in-gear ( you are 10mph down on top speed because of the gearing but do have hatchback practicality ). Half hot-hatch, half 6-cylinder cruiser

Bang on the money. Sadly its sold but there are others cropping up regularly at this price.

I think Shed Of The Week recently featured the original Audi S8. Fast, nice interior and should be at least half decent to drive. Downsides being size, complexity and running costs.
