Do I need an MOT?

I finished building and registered my kitcar (MK Indy R-R1) onto a 62 plate in nov 2012.

It has been sorned since the winter, I have just started getting her going again and onto the road.

But just occurred do I need an MOT??

I know a normal car is exempt for the first 3 years? Are there different rules for kit cars?

Does anyone have any experience here?

As I understand it with the car being on a 'new' registration then no it doesn't.

As above, 3 years from first registration.

There have been problems with the DVLA getting confused when they issued age-related number plates, but as a brand new registration mark that won't (and hasn't, I assume) risen its head.

I think it is 3 years from manufacture not registration.

Cheers guys, I will go with 3 years which is good as would be a right pain in arse getting through emissions gain!

I put the manufacture date as the day it passed IVA, and was registered 2 days later, so makes little difference

The DVLA have a free website for checking the status of a vehicle's MoT these days. Shove the 'plate into there and see what it says.

I just applied for the tax disk online, and it says MOT status confirmed. so all good.

Just a shame insurance companies are closed on sundays, so can't go for the first spin in this lovely weather
