Looking at convertibles online but I'm concerned the rear seats and roof may not offer enough space and protection?

Of course a convertible is not going to offer the strength and protection of a saloon, but is our child going to be exposed to much greater risk in a convertible?

I'm looking at BMW 6 - series and Audi A4 convertibles.

The main risk is to their hearing

Beyond that no real difference that is worth worrying about n the real world

Most modern cabrios have all sorts of pop-up roll bars and stuff for protection if the car rolls over.

They have as much space (on average) as any two door saloon or coupe.

I have an A4 cabrio and can get an isofix baby seat in and out without a problem with the roof up or down.

However - being in the back seats above 30 mph is a blustery cold and uncomfortable place.

With your child in the back, don't drive in such a way that you might put the car upside down. Simple.

Regardless of the risks and engineering if you're worried about it then you won't enjoy the car.

We've owned a SAAB 93 Aero for 2 years now and have 2 boys aged 11 and 8.
but the youngest still uses a booster seat.
there both belted in...no worries...
Behind the head restraints in the back are pop up think steel metal hoops
.it says something about them in the manual...they are a bit like a airbag as such as they deploy in fractions of a section.
and as others have said above 30..they will get a fair bit of wind blast...
but my lad love putting there hands in the air....like being on a theme park 'coaster ....wind in the hair and all that...oh they ware shades to help with the wind...
.
great fun do it....
if anyone says "there not practical..." we've had 2 apple trees 8ft tall in the car....ok ok ok the roof was down and i drove carefully back from the garden centre....hahah
