However, the racing legend's chief doctor said in March that it was unlikely he would ever fully recover from the accident.
Doctor Gary Hartstein wrote on his blog: "As time goes on, it becomes less and less likely that Michael will emerge to any significant extent."
Might be a misinterpretation of the facts going on...

Read a link to an article on Twitter today which kinda takes the edge off the 'good news' unfortunately.
Digging a little further I found that many top experts point out that the fact he's no longer 'in a coma' is virtually meaningless.
Coma essentially means no reaction at all, ie. no eye opening for example.
The fact that Schuey is able to open his eyes by definition means he is no longer in a coma, but does not mean that he is able to breathe independently. He has not gone into rehab, and so is therefore more likely to be artificially respirated and his care has simply moved from the hospital to another location.
His current status is still regarded by many neuro experts as a 'vegetative state', and so is not as far removed from a coma as many of the feel-good reports today would have us believe.
The length of time in which he was in a coma/ vegetative state do not bode well for anything like a full recovery. In fact, most of the expert opinion seems to concur that he is highly unlikely to make anything like a full recovery/ return to a normal life.
One expert pointed out that people are largely unaware of the damage prolonged unconsciousness/ reduced consciousness causes. Movies and TV have conditioned most of us to believe that a person can be 'knocked out' and awake some time later as if waking from sleep. This is simply not the case. If knocked unconscious, anything more than afew hours indicates serious damage with lasting implications for recovery.
It seems that the language used in the reports on Scheuy today has been very carefully chosen to perhaps over-emphasise his chances of full recovery. This has perhaps been done at the request of his family/ advice of doctors to allow a prolonged period in which they can attempt to assess/ rehabilitate, hopefully under reduced scrutiny/ speculation.
I hate to put a downer on things, I would love nothing more than to see Schuey be 100% again, but scratching below the surface and reading (seemingly) unbiased professional opinion on his condition does not bode well.
Would he want to live on in anything even remotely resembling a vegetative/ severely impaired state? Im not sure that the great man would.
