Just overheard a conversation where the above was given as a solution for making a 2002 Mondeo diesel engine cleaner. The owner is a real numpty and has been adding bottles of fuel additives to the tank. Apparently, his car is still smoking.

Also, you can't blow up a diesel engine by constantly redlining it.

I'm not an engineer. However, I wouldn't think that 20 miles flat out in 2nd gear is ok for a car. I guess there are rev limiters etc, but could it cause damage?

My Saab TTiD required a 20-40 minute run at 70-80mph to get the DPF to regenerate.

I am never buying another diesel unless I am doing stupid miles. Too much hassle

Was that in a certain rev range?

I bet it didn't include redlining it.
