MB CLS Vs Jaguar XJ
Discussion
Budget upto £9k ish, I understand I'd get a younger, less leggier Jag, but would like to hear owners comments on both.
By the way, my daily commute is going to be approx 8 miles (each way) through town, so I know these two cars sound a bit crazy, but I think i'll be doing an occasional jaunt to Poland through Europe.

I have a CLS 500 as a daily ride. I went for one as I like the smooth shape, nice and quiet, ability to switch from hard to soft suspension to soak up our third world roads, not a bad way to travel with a bit of effortless waft. My only thought, it is perhaps a bit too large sometimes. So my next car will be smaller. I mainly bought one as a reaction to our shocking roads, traffic, generally wanting to chill out for a change.
You shouldnt have any issues at all with the W219 CLS regarding quality or rust. Compared to the W211 E-Class which shares its chassis they have bomb-proof/church door quality & feel.
Very little interior parts are shared with the E-Class.
I have a 05 CLS55 AMG which I bought back in March, excellent car which still looks fresh:

I aslo have a CLS 500 with the exhaust resonator removed and it sounds like a mother f
ker :-)
It also has the full AMG bodykit/wheels in special order Designo Mystic Blue and looks the tits.
Mine has a later grille and was lowered by Mercedes so sits beautifull on the lowest setting.
I can thoroughly recommend it and I also do a commute of 8ish miles each way. A tank full lasts 10-15 days with some weekend mileage too.
I have had it 18 months and love it. It gets a lot of admiring (i think) looks, mostly when I have a WOT and the sound of thunder is being emitted :-)
Mine is a 55 so cheaper tax, but also only 306BHP rather than 388bhp of the slightly later ones. 306 isn't to be sniffed at though when accompanies by about 330lbft.
