Just sold my MX-5.
What's the Twingo 133 like?
Journos bang on about them being great fun but no mention of living with one. I've found a good looking one in the classifieds and insurance is £365 fully comp with dad as a named driver (I'm 21), so i'm happy with that.
Thoughts and suggestions of similar cars are welcome.

2 cars in my household, MX5 and Twingo GT (1.2 100bhp) and I love the little Twingo! The MX5 is the better car, from a technical point of view, and more fun in the right mood but I never feel I've drawn the short straw if I take the Twingo. The 133 is a little firmer (some say too firm but it depends what your are used to and the MX5 is pretty firm!) than the GT but we test drove both and only went for the GT because it had a few extra toys like bluetooth and air con but we were looking at the Cup.
Incredibly practical for such a small car, clever rear seats. The only downside is that it isn't a great long distance car because it revs a bit high at motorway speeds. There is one other downside, it has zero respect for your driving license and constantly eggs you on to drive faster because it's such a willing little thing.
Having said all that, also consider the Suzuki Swift Sport as an alternative.
Edit to add: It's now 4 years old, had it from new, driven it like it's being chased by Satan from the day it left the dealer and it's only ever had normal servicing plus tyres and brakes. Sum total of faults so far is a bulb in the dashboard that sometimes stops working till you smack the dash in the right place.

I've looked at the Swift Sport but having owned a 182 before the MX5 I'm a Renaultsport man at heart. I can't see anything in it apart from potentially better driving dynamics in the Twingo. I'll have another trawl through the classifieds for Swifts but they just don't have the same appeal.
I've sat in a Twingo and found with the seat cranked all the way down I can get quite comfortable and in a decent position. It's always the way with hatchbacks that you feel sat 'on' them rather than 'in' them - this was certainly the case with the 182!

Historically not as reliable as the Suzuki, but there is obviously some luck in that as to if you get a good one or not.
So if it just comes down to looks and how you feel about the car, then I don't think you could go wrong with either - enjoy!

Having done some trawling through the classifieds I just can't seem to find a Swift Sport at the price I want to spend with a decent mileage. Like the Twingo, there just aren't that many of them about. As it stands I've found two Twingos which I'd quite happily buy - one of which looks too good to miss.
That said, it's interesting that the majority of responses to this post have been from people in the same position as me who have opted for the Swift...
My mate had a Twingo 133 and I drove it a fair bit. They are nowhere near as quick as a Clio 182 but they are so much fun.
They handle so well and because they aren't all that powerful you can really drive them quite hard and still be within sensible speeds. On a windy B road that Twingo would keep with much more powerful cars just through the sheer grip of the thing.
Inside they do feel pretty cheap, they're not exactly well equipped and can be a pretty noisy on a cruise too but it's to be expected.
For pure fun the Twingo would be a great choice if outright pace doesn't bother you too much

Yep I was aware of the 182 performance deficit. They weigh within 10kg the same but the Twingo has 50ish hp less. In fact, I think the Twingo is heavily based on the mk2 Clio floor pan. Interior isn't much bother to me. As long as it has A/C and an audible radio it'll be doing better than the MX5. Motorway noise is, again, likely to be a considerable improvement over the MX5.
Already planning to take it on a track day....
