Porsche 993 - Values on the Decline?

Well, maybe not decline, but certainly seems like the 964 and G-series prices are moving more lately?
is it just me, or are the 964`s aging more gracefully than the more "modern" 993 intrepitation. Certainly has more of a soap bar look to it….is this what is affecting and/or determining prices?

993 prices have gone mad. More so than 964 prices, or at least that's what it looked like when I set out to buy an air-cooled car in the spring.

I didn't in the end, as I actually found that a Boxster suited my lifestyle better than a ragtop 911.

They look strong and will probably continue to get stronger. Air cooled, and more attractive than the 996, bound to get the purses opening.

964 always been the nicest air cooled model IMHO, just wish I had bought one when they were cheap.

Yes, but to suggest that means the 993 is "on the decline" is simply incorrect.
993s are going up for sure, but never got cheap so they are rising from a high base. They were never four-figure cars.
964s are going up faster in percentage terms, but only because five years ago they were being practically given away. Plenty of 964s changed hands for four-figure sums a few years ago.

Yes, 993 are not going down but the air cooled 911 of the moment seems the 964. 964 design is simpler and more effective to my eyes while in terms of driving, comfort and usuability the 993 has not much more to offer, so it is not a surprise the rise of 964. 3.2 looks stunning too but even with G50 box is not equally satisfying on the road. Said so I was looking for one recently, eligible for classic car Italian registration. 3.2s got expensive here.

Lots of 10 grand 964s 3 years ago. doubled now.

993 C2/4 always started with a 2, now creeping into 30K territory
993 C2/4S 40-50K for the best models was told not to pay more than £35K 3 years ago.
993 Turbo just gone nuts £100K anyone?

Agreed, as soon as any 911 is more than a Carrera GT I start to question the sanity of people buying those 911's.

I put a deposit on a very fresh C2 993 manual coupe at Paul Stephens last August but bought a E39 M5 instead. I've been keeping an eye on 993 prices since then and they don't seem to have moved at all for similar spec/age/conditon stuff this year (possibly a fraction down?). Maybe the surge in interest in the 964 is taking some momentum out of 993 prices. Longer term I can see 993 prices going one way only and it's probably not down.

No!

Also the 964 is older and therefore there are fewer of them about that means they are rarer and the price is higher.

Certain vehicles will increase in value quicker and more steeply than others.
