I've already posted this in the 'Jap Chat' section but believe that said car deserves to have a little more traffic.
A some what unicorn car for many (and as rare as one in the West!) is going to auction with 'RM auctions' without a reserve.

It will be interesting to see how western buyers react to it. As although it is recognised in Japan for its major successes in motor sport and pedigree in the S20 motor its been largely ignored by Western buyers/investors/collectors, is this about to change? As a fan of the car I personally hope it doesn't attract too much attention because if I'm ever going to get one I need them to stay off the radar in Europe and America to have any reasonable chance of attaining one biggrin!
I don't have an intimate knowledge of these cars so don't know how original this particular car is apart from the obvious S20 motor inside it. But none the less will be watching with great interest!

Not the same thing. The car in the video you posted is a modified KGC10 (either GT or GT-X), which came with the SOHC 12 valve 'L20A' engine as stock equipment. The car coming up at auction is a KPGC10 GT-R, which came with the DOHC 24 valve 'S20' engine and a whole host of other GT-R specific differences.
I can't see why they'll get massively popular over here, they just don't have the history in this country.
I'm guessing it's Japan's version of the lotus cortina? Even though to me it simply looks like a barried up granada!
If they're that rare, I suspect a far eastern/Australasian/American buyer will simply buy it in the hope if it not attracting too many bids over here.

I don't think that's particularly fair to say its lack of success/recognition is down to not having history in this country. Was the Shelby GT350R raced in the UK, does it stop me wanting one? No... The S20 motor derives from the Prince GR8, thanks largely to the fact that Prince and Nissan were forcibly merged in 1966. The GR8 enjoyed much success in domestic sportscar racing during its era.

To add to that there's also an interesting story that accompanies the KPGC10 GT-R's during their golden age of motorsport racing. I'll copy the post here in the interest of ease for the reader
'Sokichi Shikiba – entrant and driver of the Porsche 904 GTS, and owner of the ‘Racing Mate’ auto accessories / race equipment brand – was a long-time protege of Toyota, and has intimated that Toyota ‘encouraged’ him to buy and enter the Porsche in the race in question simply to spoil the Skyline’s show.
Toyota themselves had no answer for the Skyline on the track at the time, so pushed Shikiba san to get hold of the Porsche at short notice. In fact, they may indeed have actually *paid* all the costs incurred…..
Shikiba had a mishap in practice the day before the race, and damaged the front end of the Porsche. Apparently the car was still slightly deranged come the race, hampering Shikiba’s pace and allowing the Skylines – which should not really have been anywhere near it on the Suzuka circuit – to chase and harry it like a pack of dogs chasing a lame fox.'
So, what was supposed to have been a humiliating rout was turned into a great PR opportunity, with the Skylines seen as the moral victors and the Porsche looking slower than it should have. Not only that, but that Porsche inspired the Prince engineers at Murayama – headed by Dr Shinichiro Sakurai – to redouble their racing efforts, which resulted in the Porsche-beating R380-series sports racers and eventually the Nissan Skyline GT-R.

So the car in question has an engine that has the DNA of an out and out racing car and has the history and racing wins that any other European or American car manufacture would be proud to put their name too. Its rather sad knowing that if it was a Porsche or Shelby it would be held in very high esteem among the petroheads and investors alike.
I for one would like to learn more about them and hopefully ,if I work hard enough, get a KPGC10 of my very own. I'm sure PZR won't mind pointing anyone in the right direction if they show a genuine interest in them and would like to learn more about these very special cars.

They are unlikely to get 'massively popular' in the UK because there are simply not that many of them left (in Japan) and they tend to change hands for rather a lot of money.That and the fact that they "look like a barried-up Granada".

The auction is taking place in Monterey, California. I think it's very likely to be bought and kept by a USA-based individual. Possibly one who (I'm guessing) didn't have the wherewithal or desire to purchase it from the well known Japan-based classic car dealership that was holding it as selling stock until very recently. Actually the car may well have been sent to the RM auction by that very Japan-based dealer. The photos on the RM auctions website appear to be the very same ones - taken in Japan - that the dealer was using when he offered the car for sale on his own website...
