Mum mobile under 6k - what would you pick?

Ok so my mum is after a new car, she currently drives a 58 focus convertible but doesn't like the large doors for parking or the engine (apparently she preferred the one in her '98 1.8 TDi :/).

My dad has convinced her she wants a fiesta 1.4 TDCi but I reckon she'd be better off with a Polo/Ibiza - what are your guys thoughts?

Requirements: 4/5 doors, smallish but not too small, about 18k miles a year, 6k budget, well made, 'nippy' (in mum terms, not PH). Cheap tax etc a nice bonus.

The Fiesta is a good call.
Fabia 1.6 TDI? Small car but big inside - it has a fair amount of body roll but apart from that its faultless.
DS3 - I like Citroen's and the Derv engine it supposed to be half decent...

And standard PH responses - MX5? 335D? TVR?
