Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost..tuning?

Thinking of buying one of these soon, plan for it to be a keeper too. Looked at older exec cars (2003 e46 330ci in particular) but potential bills put me off, hence the idea for new. My local dealer has good offers on the 100ps version, reviews rate it well, although I'm still worried about a lack of power! Obvious it will be no powerhouse! Just don't want anything underpowered!

So the idea of tuning, a few companies have chips and mods that will give around 150/160 bhp, although I'd probably use the ford approved mountune, that should give roughly 135bhp and a nice increase in torque too! Should be enough

Thing is would this affect the longlivity of the engine? I'm no expert on how these things work, obviously it's going to be a stressed engine, but surely modern engineering, regular servicing and leaving the engine running to cool the turbo would help?

There is a huge thread on the Ford Owners club. The best one to go for is the 125PS, as they go to 150 with a Superchips. As for longevity only time will tell. These cars are a year old at the most.

If you'd like an e46 330ci, then get that instead!! A new fiesta ecoboost will cost a minimum of £12k ish while a good, below average mileage BMW will be around £4k, even if you're very unlucky and end up spending £2k on repairs, you're still £6k in black i'd defintely get the 330

Ah thanks JakeT, I'll take a look over there..

I do like the 330, but the running costs wil be large, plus I'll be doing a fair few miles in the not too distant future, hence wanna something cheap, reliable, hassle free and fun. I have a mgb which keeps me on my toes with repairs :P

I've had several 330Ci's and would never have viewed the running costs as large? Simple big straight six?

These new ecoboost engines arent getting anywhere near the official MPG and if you're going to mod one and drive it enthusiastically, then would expect MPG to be on a par with the 330Ci anyway. Plus theres no guarantees around medium / longterm reliability.

Also, once you mod it, it will cause problems if you need to make a warranty claim, and your insurance company will need to know.

And lastly, what you may perceive as you'll "save" in maintenance you'll lose far more in depreciation
