Temporary car insurance for imported car

Hello,

I wondered if anyone has recommendations for a company that would insure my french registered VW Golf based on the chassis number, so that I can drive it from the port to my UK address and to/from MOT prior to UK registration with DVLA? I am fairly certain my french insurance will be invalid because I will no longer have a french address, so it won't count as a temporary trip.

I already contacted The Insurance Factory who did not know the name of any companies that will do it temporarily on this basis, and google does not seem to bring up much. The agent at the insurance factory seemed sure such a company will exist, but just did not know the name(s) off the top of his head!

Hi,

We can offer chassis number insurance that will cover you to drive to & from a pre-booked MOT and to DVLA etc.

The only thing we can't cover is to drive either to the UK or from the port to your house.

Thanks...but I would really also need the insurance from port to house in UK, otherwise I have no legal way to do that. Is this a general thing that cannot be offered or its only you that cannot do it?

I suppose another option is a tow truck to take it from port to house, if this is not too expensive? Then I could insure with you just for drive to mot and back.

Book your mot for the same day you land at port and drive it straight there on the insurance offered above???

Not a bad idea....get there early, mot it and then drive it home!
