Help with number plate transfer.

I have bought a new car that I pick up on Friday. My current car has private plates.. I want my new car to keep its original plates for a few months (purely because I've never had a new car before) then I will transfer my private plate onto it.

Am I too late to do this?

What are my options?

Any help would be much appreciated!

did you originally organise to transfer your private plate to it?

it's never 'too late' as you can now always get an age appropriate plate put on any car at any point, although if it's not the first registration on the vehicle then this plate would normally be a non transferable plate.

Just done exactly the same! However I can't complete the deal until I have taken the plate off, as when the dealer takes the car part ex, they legally own the plate should it still be attached to the car.

I had to fill out a form to retain the plate and post of the docs, when it all comes back with the new documents of the original plate and the new v5, then the dealer will take the car and complete the deal, it's a right PITA as I also have anew car waiting!

Best speak to your dealer about what options you have, they're normally pretty helpful tbh.

• presuming you are part exchanging? If not you'll need the same form to transfer the plate, fairly straightforward that way IIRC

Will it take this long to put the original registration plate back on? The plate which I bought the car with.

Would it just be better to transfer my number plate over if I am picking the car up on Friday?

I got my new car TWO MONTHS ago and am still waiting for the plate swap. I have had the retention certificate and sent that back but still haven't had the new V5 etc.
