It's surprising how such a good looking car can be made to look so disastrously ugly with just a few changes!

However, the MR2 Turbo will always hold a place in my heart. Thinking back, it's probably the car I'll remember most fondly, other than my A8. But the MR2 felt so special to drive, so alert and alive with all manner of engine noises behind you. Just incredible to drive, at the right sort of power level so that it felt fast, but also exploitable on the road. A proper belter and a fine GT car too. Much more comfortable (though also less adept) at a weekend in the Lake District than my 106 Rallye was.

IIRC these were converted by TRD from T-bar cars by literally sawing the roof off brand new MR2s, and deemed not to need any additional chassis reinforcement (T-bars have a couple of extra braces that the hard tops don't).
There's a photoshop of one of these with the TRD 2000GT widebody kit fitted that looks absolutely phenomenal, reminds me of an F50. To my knowledge nobody has ever done it in real life...

Shame it's got a Rev 2 engine. If you're going to all that engine you'd have thought they'd put a Rev 3+ engine in it!

It looks strange with the soft top up but i want it. Would have to reutrn it back to standard bodywork though. £5K for a project though

They were a very limited run in japan only built by technocraft I think about only 90 were made. Mostly auto and non turbo iirc, although there have been a few with turbo motors installed.

They do look very wierd with the top up but, top down I think they look fantastic. I'd just be worried about chassis rigidity, seeing as the T-Bar versions arent that solid. Which is why I have a hardtop!

Its a shame that one seems to have suffered the usual tacky interior bits, crappy wheels and naff looking bodykit. Although it wouldnt be hard to take back to standard.

I remember seeing these online about 10 years ago when I was driving an MR2, they were the Holy Grail of MR2's then, as someone said they're TRD hatchet jobs rather than rare factory cars - like a Bauer E30 I guess.

Personally I think they're revolting, those pics flatter a car that has pretty terrible proportions in the metal. IMO.
