McLaren Special Operations 650S revealed

'One-off design study' Coupe Concept makes it to limited production

Behind the post apocalyptic MTC setting, there was the sneaking suspicion that the 650S Coupe Concept wasn't destined to be unique. And, wouldn't you know it, a production version has been prepared just in time for Goodwood.

Carbon abounds in here, of course

The McLaren Special Operations (MSO) 650S carries over much that was seen on the Coupe Concept including the Agrigan Black paint. Sarigan Quartz and Papaya Spark are also available. There's also the three-piece rear bumper with more aggressive diffuser, MSO carbon side blades and the new front splitter. Mechanically it's identical to a 650S.

Carbon is plentiful inside with a 'signature dedication plaque' on the sill panel but it's fundamentally still a 650S interior. McLaren will make 50 650S MSOs as both Coupes and Spiders. It will cost £252,500 for the hard top and £20K more for the Spider. And there were 650S customers feeling smug that they had the newest McLaren...

Looks great! The colour is so important with the 650s. Think the darker colours suit it's curves more.

Maybe they have borrowed the "Porsche bumper book of design ideas" from Germany and read the chapter called "how to use your office photocopier" ?

The 650S as someone has said really does look better in darker shades, and expecially good in silver. And I do like that rear bumper treatment. The standard 650S bumper looks quite nasty with the big Carbon center section but change away from a bright colour and it makes sense.

Now that is a nice nice car.... Best one of those I've seen yet. Looked kinda like the 918 at first. Price doesn't bother me to be honest.

I never really bought the idea of making a limited edition based upon options that are available through MSO anyway ? Then paying extra for a plaque

Rear end is better resolved, the standard 650S is plain butt ugly from behind (which is the bit most people will see if fleetingly).

It'll be interesting to see what's not included on the P13, as it's supposed to be half the price...
