App Integration To In-Car Infotainment

Hi Folks,

My company (www.spicymango.co.uk) specialises in building applications and services, and have recently had lots of enquiries from automotive dealerships and some manufacturers about the new Apple CarPlay and Google Projected Mode solutions.

Wanted to get some thoughts from you all regards which apps you'd like to see integrated and what you think is missing today from in car infotainment systems.

I don't want a separate app platform/OS running my car.

I just want to plug my phone in and have an interface that makes controlling it in the car easier so I can continue to use apps on my phone.

Something like a big touchscreen monitor with audio linked to the car.

That would be amazing but how many cars have Wifi/Ethernet Chips built in? I guess the phone could possibly act as a bridge or you could data tether it via USB maybe.

Quite simply just phone mirroring. My phone has music, net radio and sat nav - that mirrored onto my car's touchscreen is ideal.

However I do like my 208's USB interface - very good for music!

Key for me, as with others is phone mirroring. Your phone is the universal device you'll carry everywhere, the in car system should interact with it, not try to replace it.
Had high hopes for Mirrorlink, have it in my car and its great to mirror navigation and stream music through Tuned In. But it's too restrictive (no Spotify) and support seems have stalled with manufacturers.
