Have booked my Disco3 tdv6 in for a terraclean on Monday.
I've owned the car since August 2012, it's covered 27k with me, has had 2 full services changing all 4 filters, 2 oil and filter alone changes and is run on Esso but used to be run on either V power or Ultimate diesel.
Engine is strong, pulls well from all revs and don't smoke but the mpg is rather low even by D3 standards at 23.52mpg average over 24k. Recorded by app.

Garage says I could see a 2-3 mpg rise which is always welcome.

Has anyone else tried it?
If so, what did you think of it and did you notice any changes, either good or bad to the way the car responded to the treatment.
Couple of people on the Disco site have tried it and report better running and an increase in mpg but always good to hear more views and experiences of it.

had my Saab 9-3 done last year and it made the car feel like new.

Just bought a 2011 C220 CDi which I'll be getting done not long after picking it up

From the website FAQs

Q4: How much does a service cost ?
We Randstad are the importers of TerraClean . We set Recommended Retail Prices. Vehicles up to 2.0L engine size £ 108.00 vehicles above 2.0L engine size £ 126.00. Larger engined diesel vehicles including Trucks and Buses will cost more. Your local operator can give you a firm price, before you agree to the service.

Snake Oil?

Will be interesting to see the results, given that Edd China seems to be endorsing it.

Oh, and I remember the supplying company from way back. Rumour has it that they used to sneak the odd "Freebie in with the Trade Orders that some people gave them. (They were heavily into bulbs at the time)

A few reprts I have read have said they needed new injectors afterwards, the terraclean obviously removed old carbon that was hiding issues.

That sort of put me off.

With a direct injection diesel engine, the cleaning solution will only contact the injectors and the combustion chamber. Valves and intake manifold will be just as dirty as before.

I am just not seeing it making a difference to a car that doesn't have issues with dirty injectors.

Had this done to my BMW E81 130i

Car felt a little more responsive afterwords and sounded a little throatier ,also made 6hp more on the same dyno in the same week,

Edit:- just to a add my cars average mpg went up from 22mpg to 25-26mpg on my weekly commute, also motorway average went from just under 36mpg to 39mpg @ 70mph

My brother in law has just taken one of these machines for his garage and has done a few now. Feedback is all good so far from the cars and vans done. My wifes Focus (1.8 petrol) was done and she says she can feel a difference (improvement) in performance. The garage van has been done and one of the mechanics Golf TDI was done by the Terraclean rep before they agreed to take the machine and both are running better.

He has had a few regular customers in who have also had their cars done, Civic Type R and another couple of VAG TDI's which I have seen them write on the garage facebook that they are happy too.

I think he charges £110 for the treatment but people can charge what they want I think so there will be a bit of regional difference.

The only cleaning products I've ever seen actually work are seafoam and 44K, seafoam is so effective that if your engine has a lot of miles on it the carbon buildup that comes out can block the cat so it's better to do it bit by bit over time rather than all in one go. It's also very antisocial to do in an urban area, worried public will call the fire brigade as they assume your cars on fire.

Ultrasonic cleaning is the best way for injectors but you can't do that in situ.

Tested on rabbits and rats (for toxicity purposes). Classy.

Petroleum Distillate 8006-61-9 60 - 100 Diacetone Alcohol 123-42-2 1 - 5 Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether 112-34-5 1 - 5 PseudoCumol 95-63-6 1 - 5 Isopropyl Alcohol 67-63-0 1 - 5 Carbon Dioxide 124-38-9 1 - 5

Last column is percentage by weight - dunno how to format. Search for terraclean msds or material safety data sheet for a nicely formatted table.

So its the exact same idea as all the other cleaning agents.

If this floats your boat, I have a VERY limited supply of a product called "wat-er-difference". If you ping me on here I can guarantee you jump the queue but like I say very limited supplies so move quickly. £15 / for a 100ml super concentrated shot to put in your tank.

Benefits include advanced steam cleaning action. Oxidisation of metallic components (or if you know what that means then it'll deoxidise stuff in your car instead). When I traded in my old lupo, I put this in the new focus st, I achieved a 200bhp increase overnight.

Yes I agree with this, it needs to be some sort of cleaner that is used in the air intake to make a great difference for the valve train.

I've got some even cheaper, only £1 per litre.

Hosepipe is an optional extra though

Hehe I've suspected for years that nearly all additives are a car placebo pill or a con in a can. In the states some people use seafoam as it looks like it's doing something because your exhaust smokes. I know Teflon/PFTE additives were banned but governments still allow other similar scams. It's a minor problem but I think the government should make it harder for all these 'claim everything, do nothing' products to be sold.

I think all the additives you need to burn fuel cleanly in an engine are in the fuel. It seems to me that modern engines burn so cleanly that carbon build up is only a problem if the engine has a serious fault or is a direct injection petrol engine.

Regarding the mpg issue. Is the thermostat functioning correctly?

The coolant should be fully up to temp within 10 minutes.

I've had 2 cars of different brands with knackard stats and it made 3-4 mpg difference on both cars.

It depends what kind of fuels you are using. Supermarket fuels use less additives, so do not burn as cleanly as premium fuels or offer the same calorific values of octane/cetane ratings.
Carbon build up is a massive problem for any vehicles with DP filters and egr valves and direct injection. DPF's coke up with stop start driving and short journeys. EGR valves recirculate burn gases and soot back into the inlet. This eventually cokes up the inlet valves and inlet tract which has no fuel wash if it's direct injection. That's all modern diesels and a significant number of modern petrols. Including your RS4's, R8's, anything Porsche from 2008 etc etc.

The EGR valve is a good idea, when it is closed uneer low loads it allows exhaust gases to come back into the manifold you in essence reducing the capacity of the engine hence reducing the amount of gas need to tick over and thus reducing fuel consumption.

However, that would be great if exhaust gases were clean, but they are not, it doesn't take too long to get your EGR looking like this....

Bypass the EGR valve and blank off intake manifold swirl flaps is the best idea to keep your engine looking clean, and add some 2 stroke as well every fill up if you're diesel.
