Nissan Murano - anyone tried one?

Thinking of the diesel to replace a Cayenne Turbo and a Subaru Outback.

Like the toys. Like the value. And love a bit of Jap reliability.

What's not to like? Apart from a gaping chrome grill.

Do they do a diesel now then?

It was only available with the detuned 350z engine I thought.

Lack of sat nav, auto and diesel puts me off.

I bought my Wife a 4 year old 3,5 lt and her brand new SLK turmed into a garden ornament.
I thought it was a pleasure to drive too.
We ended up trading in the SLK and the Murano for a new Murano.
She kept it for about 3 years before we went for the Evoque. Went to the Nissan dealer first but two years ago they were planing not to bringing the new Murano into the UK.
Its a pity but the Evoque is proving to be great anyway and MANY more MPG.

Didn't know they were doing them now and a diesel as well.....food for thought.

Have a petrol one as family bus - love it. But consider a fx30 infinity also - great deals

Had one of the first ones into the country nearly a decade ago... love it, the interior trim was a little low on the quality side of things but the engine and the driving experience more than made up for it.

can't comment on the diesel though I'm afraid.

You're right about the transmission, but other than that CX7s did come with a diesel and Sat-Nav. It's the 2.2 unit from the higher powered Mazda 6, so while it's not as powerful as the 2.5 from the Pathfinder and Navara that is installed in the Murano, you may find it is a bit quieter and easier to live with.

Like the CX7, but def after an auto. The diesel Murano's still seem pretty pricey given you can get a similar age Touareg for not much more.

So, been looking into these more - what's the key points to look out for/failure points?

Our 2008 50k miler has been faultless - not a trip to the dealer for anything so cant help. But the MK2 is a lot nicer than a MK1

Am looking at the Mk2 - as you say, better looking and the interior looks to be a much nicer place to be. Have seen a couple of reasonable miles cars for reasonable prices. Rather tempting.

There must, however, be a downside? Thirsty?

The CVT gearbox can be a bit marmite.

You'll either love it or despise it.

I've always loved the Murano - IIRC it received good reviews at the time.

And it came out before every brand had their own SUV.

Thirsty ? We run 2 SUVs of 3.5 and 5.0 displacement - we could get Skods yetis with diesel sippers but it's not us, if you are bothered about mpg you can get much better than any murano.

In balance though the murano is off soon to be replaced by a Mitsubishi outlander phev as the mrs does under 30 mile trips and as a company car it's virtually free
