Selling a car...what is the scam here?

I am selling a car and after a few emails I received this:

"Hello,

Thanks for your response, the car is okay by me... I am ready to buy this car as a gift for my partner and i am at sea at the moment because i am a Marine Engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want the Car to be a surprise package to my partner so i won't let her know anything about the Car until it gets delivered to him, I am sure he will be very happy with the Car. I will transfer the money to you via PayPal or via Bank Transfer because i think that is the only secure way to pay you for the Car, i will need you to give me your PayPal Email Address or your Bank Account Details so that i can proceed with the payment today... Please if you don't have PayPal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com and get it set up.. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the Car up after i have made the payments...Hope to read the payment details from you soon and here are the details needed from you below:

Your Full Name
Your Personal Email Address
Your Bank Account Details
Your Total Amount
Your Phone Number

I wait to receive the payment details from you soon..
Thanks."

I know it is a scam somehow but don't know how...what is the scam if he does a bank transfer?

Well that's obvious, but he doesn't know where the car is to collect it/steal it.

If I receive the money in my bank account then surely all is good?

Is there any drawbacks / scam of giving him my bank account number?

It won't be a real bank transfer or paypal payment. Looks like the money is in your account and everything is ok, then 2 weeks later the bank confirms with you that the payment hasn't actually cleared.

You've just given your car away for free !!

Or other option thats common is the person transfers you too much money and asks you to return the difference to their 'shipping agent' when he collects the car. Same as before that the original payment never existed, but this time you've give your car away with some free cash for the scammer as well.

What is a fake bank transfer? Surely when money 'appears' it is then clear?

Still doesn't matter as the money won't be real. I'm not 100% sure it works from their end as I'm not a scammer, but its a pretty well known scam.

Doesn't even matter if you transfer the 'money' out of your account into another and close the account. As soon as the bank realises they just re-open the account and place you in debt to the relevant amount.

As has been said on here multiple times ... Don't Do It.

He has just responded

"I want you to know that i am ready to makem transaction with you and you can call me here on [phone].... I am ready to make the transfer to your account today so i want you to get back to me with your bank details so i can proceed with the payment asap.."

(last few digits of phone number changed!)

Looks like he is going to makem me a transaction.

transfer with hacked /dodgy account including £1k extra, can you just transfer the £1k to the shipper from your account

then the bank /whoever take thier money back and youre a grand down out of your own funds

Just don't deal with him at all. Its a scam. Don't confirm your existence.

I understand that. Thats not what the other posters are suggesting. They are suggesting the likely scam is that they transfer money to my account from a dodgy credit card/account.

It's a SCAM. Full stop. Just set it to your spam folder.

Just take the text of the email and google it. You will find hundreds using almost the same text.
