I've secured a new job where I won't get a company vehicle for 4 months so need a car/insurance for that period to commute.
I've sorted a car, but on phoning my insurers who insure my weekend car and they can only offer a max of 3 months at nearly £400.
I've phoned around a few other companies and they are similar.

Does anyone know of any insurers that can do 4 month insurance?

The only other option would be to swap my civic insurance for the 4 months, but that would mean not being able to drive that for that time.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers smile

Shop around for a one-year policy as usual but before committing to anything, find out what it would cost to cancel after four months.

I'd recommend Budget Insurance, not only are they not a den of aholes like most insurance providers (Admiral, I'm looking at you) they're actually very easy and nice to deal with.

But they offer honest to goodness monthly payments, not a 12 month finance deal on an annual policy like most. So if you end it after 4 months, it'll cost you your 4 months payments - plus a £75 cancelation fee - yes it's money for old rope, but far better than most.

Even admiral only rip you off by £35 to cancel, you get the prorated balance refunded.

I'm not sure what calculation they use, something akin a mix between the rule of 72 and the lessor known rule of screwemhardandfast - but when I cancelled after 3 months of trying to deal with them, they wanted roughly 80% of the full year premium - whereas Budget where happy with what I'd paid them in the previous 4 months plus the fee.

Can you not just sign up to a monthly deal then cancel the direct debit? I know month 1 is likely to be more than 2-12 but may work out better?

Generally not because mostly, you actually spread the year's premium over however many months you pay the interest (10 - 12).
