Driving towards M3 on A322 today saw a very attractive car merging from the left. Even in auto-pilot mode I was somehow alerted because I could not recognise it. Was it a Jaguar or a Maserati? I had to catch up to read the rear badge to reveal it was the first Tesla 4 door saloon I have ever seen. It was in the traditional Jaguar metallic red colour and looked serene. From the outside this car looks the business.

Funnily enough I saw my first UK one today too - a P85+ looking very purposeful in black with black wheels.

Had a sit in one last year when I was over in the States, fantastic dashboard, just odd that their isn't an engine, just two motors on the rear axel.

Strange as well that the two rear sears face backwards. Or they can be turned, can't remember now.

There is a good vid somewhere showing one having a battery change in minutes at designated battery changing stations.

Saw 1 in that colour last week in SW1, Victoria Sreet IIRC, looked stunning.

Whilst in Le Mans we saw a Tesla 4 Door as a TAXI!!!

Later that evening we called for a taxi and guess what turned up.

Nice ride big screen just a bit plastic inside. They cost about £60k if I remember correct. That's a lot of money for the cars interior.

Sat in one at Goodwood on the weekend, very nice apart from the plasma like display screen. And it had a normal 5 seats and then when the boot was opened there was two bucket seats facing backwards, very strange.

Not when you considering how much money has to be sunk in the battery and drive train.

I do agree though apart from the screen the interior is the only let down.

Do you have a picture of the taxi ?

I was in California last week and I saw dozens of the things. Popped into their store in San Jose for a chat and I was impressed. The only thing I didn't like was the screen. It looks like someone's smuggling a Panasonic. Way too big and they're drawing heater dials ffs - it's a clean slate, do something different!

Saw loads of these on a recent trip to Stavanger in Norway. Looked OK, I guess, in a sort of US car company tries to design a Jaguar sort of way, and they were impressively quiet on the way past. However the locals I was chatting to about them didn't seem to impressed with them, despite the effective massive discount they get on them. Common complaints I heard was a horrible plastic interior that didn't come close to what BMW/Audi/Merc were doing for the same price (in Norway remember, so comparing them to a 3 Series/A4 etc), slightly dubious reliability and the fact that they weren't actually that clean thanks to Norway's increased reliance on fossil fuels to make power.

No idea how accurate most of that is, as if you read the press Teslas are the bestest cars ever ever EVER, however they are the only reports I've heard from people who've actually owned one, so meh. However from the people in Norway I spoke to, the opinion seemed to be that they were great if you wanted to make a statement about saving the planet or liked gadgets, but for everyone else? Just buy a normal car.

Drove a P85+ a couple of weeks back. Very impressive machine and it's performance was really quite astonishing. I live in the center of a large city where these make total sense. I would have one in a heartbeat if I had a spare 100 grand lying around.

Saw my first one last Saturday, going through Duffield, Derbyshire.

Not for the first, or probably last time, the wife and kids looked a little bemused at my excitement at seeing a car.

I followed one coming out of London on the M4 last week.

Like many of you, at first I didn't know what it was. Again, very Jaguar / Maserati-esque. I suspected it was a Tesla but needed to get closer.

Once the M4 cleared a little it accelerated away pretty smartly. Caught it up, though.

And, yes, huge screen inside. Liked the exterior looks but not the price.

And no V8 burble.

Just because it's electric does not mean it has to be "wacky" and "progressive" (take note bmw/nissan)

Tesla show you how to do an electric car correctly

Do these run on purely electricity? No fuel tank for the odd fill up?

I assume the battery needs replacing / servicing every five years like the Honda Prius?

Pure Electric

Honda Prius..... Think you need to go back to first principles.
