Post examples of good driving

We get so many whinges on this forum about bad driving, and the cars it stereotypically involves. I guess often good driving is harder to spot, because it typically involves being unobtrusive and predictable, but now and again you see someone doing it noticeably nicely. Seeing someone making good, safe progress in something a bit humble is always nice. I remember not being held up by a highway maintenance flatbed on a local road, and thinking "if you can maintain that pace there's no excuse for the rest of the buggers". Also following a 1.6 Focus through Gloucestershire in the RX-8 and not wanting to go any faster. I was recently driven across the Scottish countryside by the father in law in his Proton something or other. It's a long time since he did his IAM, but he was fast, smooth, rev-matched every downshift and made some very well judged overtakes.

I occasionally see someone doing what my wife calls "sarcastic driving" when I do it. Which is very explicit and well signalled lane discipline.

Not your typical motorway type car but I once followed a Fiat Seicento along the motorway once and it was good to see good lane discipline, every lane change was indicated a couple of seconds before the manoeuvre was started, every lane change was performed at a good speed - i.e. gradual and not too sudden and it then pulled in a good considerate distance in front of the car it passed.

Every manoeuvre was predictable and it made a refreshing change to see.

It's also great when approaching a slower car in lane one and a car in lane 2 moves across to lane 3 even before I've indicated to show I wish to move to lane 2. Nice to see some people anticipating the actions of others.

I achieved maximum velocity in my Vauxhall Belmont 15 years ago and lived to tell the tale.

I spend hours everyday on the road and can count on one hand the amount of good driving i see in a week, and so called professionals seem to be just as bad as joe bloggs.

I've driven my shed on budget tyres and not crashed and died yet. That's got to be down to good driving right?
