Astra or Focus Estate with Automatic Gearbox - Any Problems

I wonder if anyone can offer a little advice.
Due to a dodgy knee I'm now looking for an estate with an automatic gearbox. 1.8 Astras and 2.0 Focus's around model year 2008 are a possibility but I'm wondering if there are any potential problems, especially with the gearboxes. I believe Astra's had some problem with fluid leaking from the radiator into the boxes causing big problem. Is that still going to be a problem with a 2008 car or could it even have had a recall and the problem sorted?
Can anyone also tell me how many actual gears do these boxes have and can they be used in a tiptronic way?
