Renewing VED - MOT/Private Plate Issue

Wondering if anyone can help...

Bought a car in Feb, previous owner used to have private plate.

I don't have a print out of the MOT certificate, but know the MOT is valid until August 2014.

I'm now trying to tax the car, but DVLA online doesn't recognise the MOT, I'm guessing that's because it was done whilst still on the private plates.

How do I fix this?

If I go to an MOT testing centre, will they be able to print out a new MOT certificate for me and then I can head down to the Post Office and do it that way?

When the plates were changed the MOT should have been updated to show the new reg. Sounds like that hasn't happened properly. Who did the plate change, you or the previous owner? And how do you know when the MOT runs out?

Whatever the rights and wrongs, the easiest solution is probably to get a new MOT done now with the current registration number.

Ring the DVLA. They can sort it, but it takes a few days.

The previous owner did the plate change before he sold the car.

DVLA can sort it, but will take about 10 working days... Tax has already run out!

Seems like easiest option may be to get a new MOT, even though it's 3 months early.

I have MOT certificate number and old private plate number, so I can see it's valid until September!

So frustrating!!

I transferred my plate to a new car a couple of months ago. DVLA didn't send an amended MOT certificate back for the donor car. I rang them up and they happily sent me an amended MOT. If you ring them and explain they should be able to update the system so you can order a new tax disc.
