I have the upmost respect for the traffic police. See them on the tv, and all the time at work, both here in the UK and throughout Europe, and think from what i've personally seen the French motorcycle cops are as good as our own.
Its an impressive clip, just wondered what others here thought of the distances between bikes and vehicles in the convoy? Bit close, or fine bearing in mind the training they have had?

mods, i guess this could have gone under a few topics, so just stuck it here wink

Bloody ridiculous.

What would plod do if he spotted civilians riding as close as that?

And what justifies hogging lane 3 like that?

Love to see what they'd do if they encountered a delaminated truck tyre in lane 3.

Nice clip - bit of demonstration riding I suspect. A very controlled environment to do it - good conditions, front and rear escorts, everybody on radio...

One rule for them, and another for us, nothing new, and it'll never change.

Oh, good, can we try that, then?

Controlled environment? What happens when the one in the middle gets whacked by a truck's wheel nut, like the one that destroyed my windscreen last week?

Do you not think that them being in any lane/position/speed they fancy would be slightly more difficult to work out what's going on ?
Even the UK coppers had some sort of formation.

Life's too short to let yourself get gripey over such things...chill a little.

It's more than a little annoying to see them behaving in a way that would be deemed careless/hazardous/dangerous should we indulge in the same.

What's more of a problem is the real risk taken.

I do not want to be alongside that lot when one of them is brought down by the aforementioned flying wheel nut, as he brings down others around him and clobbers my motor with flying motor bikes and policemen.

Unlikely, yes, but possible.

In these days of plod deeming people to be out of control as a consequence of taking a drink whilst stationary at traffic lights, the behaviour depicted here is more than a little hypocritical.

There is some amount of stupidity on here. Any chance to try and slate the police and every troll crawls out from under his bridge. Formation driving/ flying/riding is not dangerous in a controlled environment. They have a lead car to keep an eye out for any obstacles and radios unlike us when we're tailgating on a motorway.

That's looks fine to me. The amount of training they've had, with the controlled environment they were in poses very little danger.

No need to be a massive flappy tart because the police can do something you're not allowed to.

Do they know we drive on the left, and that's not the inside lane?

I'm very anti-TDF anyway, I don't see what all the fuss is about and why it's worth closing Yorkshire and causing chaos and mayhem. I definitely don't get why they're parading French coppers through the streets, they're just policemen (with no authority), who cares. Are we really so simple that we get excited by a policeman in a foreign uniform? It's not like the US troops in WW2 is it?

Traffic police doing a ride like that, with lead vehicles spotting for them, radio links and their relatively low pace means there is little risk. It's not the same as civilians riding in a tight bunch, who aren't going to have front and rear radios and someone talking in their ear to tell them what to expect 200 yards down the road.

It annoys me when they actually do take the piss with the "one rule for one" stuff, like when they chase speeding bikers for extended periods before putting the blues on while riding undercover bikes. Once they've witnessed someone doing 160mph and continue to follow for a while rather than pulling them over immediately, for no other reason than they fancied stretching the undercover R1's legs a bit does annoy me. But formation riding with escorts is massively different to civilians riding closely. That said, if you do pull alongside your mates on a quiet road, who is going to see, or care? If you're doing it anywhere a copper is likely to pull you and say you're riding dangerously close, it's probably somewhere that it is actually dangerous to ride close together.

I'm a biker, and there are times and places where I know you can ride very close, at high speeds with little risk other than the debris on the road scenario, and I know there are times when I could ride close but could get pulled for what could be interpreted as dangerous riding. In those situations, I wouldn't want to be riding close to my friends anyway, as much as I trust them, because I'd want a reasonable error margin space.

Just google it. It isn't rocket science.

Heck... 100m athletes rehearse their reaction time to get off the blocks. So I'd accept it works.
Add on F1 drivers etc etc - and the evidence quickly builds up.
