Bought on Fleabay an 03 1.2 Polo for £510 notes.

Not great condition, but the basics are there, its clean and the rot is none existent. 10 months mot, 5 tax.

Engine has a misfire. I knew this was a risk.

They are known to eat Exhaust valves. Found out today that it had a cylinder head rebuild last year.

Cause of misfire I strongly suspect to be the oil pooled in Cylinder 3 spark plug hole. I'm presuming a failed rocker cover gasket/sealant and maybe a blocked pcv.

It's off to the garage tomorrow.

You could get you money back and more on just the parts alone if you have the time to strip it and sell it off so i would say you have yourself a good deal. I would imagine a replacement engine would be quite easy to get hold of for reasonable money if needed and would still be worth the cash;)

I could ask myself the same question, but why did anyone bother to rebuild the head on a £500 shed? Did they do the work themselves?

Nope. The cost was £700 although no receipt so not guaranteed. Car working should be worth more like £1,200 to £1,500.

Wheel trims are pretty shot, but still cable tied to the wheels...
