Depreciation Data

Hi all,

Loving this forum so far, but need some help...

I am on the search for some reliable, up-to-date charts that show depreciation rates of UK car values over a number of years.

I would like to be able to see a graphical chart of how much certain car values depreciate, and then compare them, etc.

I know I could just look on Parker's, etc, but it would be great to get visual data (if nothing else, I could convince the wife about car choices!).

So, does anybody know of any UK resources that have this data available (or similar)?

If it's new and mainstream it'll drop like a stone (just look at the 3 year guides).

If it's secondhand and mainstream it'll drop line a stone.

If it's secondhand and a limited numbers/edition and well liked it'll cost more to buy, but depreciate less.

You might be best giving us an idea of what class/type of car you're looking to buy so people can give you suggestions.

IMO it depends on what budget you have, if it's 3k, why worry, if it's 30k then I can see some justification.

I often thought it would be interesting to have this kind of analysis and even done it myself for cars that I've been interested in buying.

I'm sure Parkers (or other such company) could do it pretty easily from data they already have but not sure if they do. Might be available on some kind of subscription service...

Hmm, that seems to be complete rubbish for anything remotely unusual. It reckons a four year-old supercharged Elise should be worth £15k.

That's the problem with generic calculators - they're not very specific

For the data to be of any use you need to know what people are paying for their cars, not the list price.
