Is this legal....insurance question.

Hey guys,

Going to have a look at a car on Friday and if it all checks out I plan on purchasing it and driving it home. Now my insurance lets me drive another car Third Party, I was always under the impression that the car had to be fully insured by another owner (for example I could drive my brothers car and be covered by my insurance).

Does this also count for a car that I own? Could I drive it back and then sort out full insurance?

In terms of if it needs instance elsewhere, some do, some don't.

No. Since Continuous Insurance Enforcement was introduced all cars on the road have to be covered by their own insurance.

You can get a one day policy, just google one day insurance cover, cheap enough and at least you're legal.

Call, explain and get the insurance set up and ready beforehand then call them to turn it on/pay once youve bought the car.

Cool that's what I thought the answer would be, will sort out a quote on Thursday and then will just give them a buzz for the go ahead on the Friday if it all checks out

Untrue. Depends on the insurer. Some require the vehicle to be insured in its own right, some do not.

CIE makes things difficult, because nowdays the purpose do the state seems to make the citizen's life as awkward as possible for no discernable reason (see also: getting a numberplate made up).

You're technically right, but it's a moot point since CIE as all cars on the road have to be covered in their own right.

It might be a bit obvious, but why don't you get a quote now and save it. Then go and view the car, if you like it, call up and buy the insurance then and there?

If the insurance company will be closed by the time you get there, you can always buy it online and it will start immediately.

Alternatively you could call your insurane company, explain the situation and see if they have any ideas.
