Car Insurance - young provisional driver

Having just bought a 3rd car so that step-lad can learn to drive, which will eventually become his car, I've now started to get quotes.

Without him it's £300. bargain. With him £1,200....

Now I expected it to be expensive once he's passed his test, but I thought it was relatively cheap until that point. Am I wrong or looking in the wrong place?

Think you'll find that is cheap until he passes...wait for the after pass price.

That is, unfortunately, cheap. Look into how much it'll be when they pass and be shocked at the prices

Hopefully he'll get a job with an insurance company 50% discount before then!

I've ended up going with my existing insurer for now. They've mirrored my NCB so only £190. When he get's his provisional through and I add him the NCB will drop off and the cost shoots up!
