Importing a car into the UK.

Has anyone any guidance on this? Apart from the shipping cost, what else? The car will be over 10 years old and probably from the US. It shouldn't need an IVA.

I've done this from the US with a classic. Why won't it need an IVA? Repatriotising a UK car?

Usual stuff:
Shopping insurance
VAT
Duty
Trailering from the shopping destination (no longer can you drive it home )

Beyond that - if it's a US car, lights etc...

Thanks for your replies. I think I've read that you need to pay UK tax at 30% on the total including shipping so this may change the deal anyway

Yes, 10% import duty on the purchase price and shipping, then 20% VAT on that total.

Just get the sender to graffiti GIFT on the side of the crate and mark the value as twenty quid

Sounds good - one I'm looking at is a 1965 Pork 356 coupe.
