Breakdown cover for U/K and Europe together on one policy

Hello, looking for a policy that covers both please.
I have been looking, however they cannot be bought as one policy together for some reason.

Does anyone know which company it can be done with?

ADAC

All of Europe covered. Loads of other benefits - far too many to list.

€114 for me and the OH (€89 for me on my own), any vehicle, all year. No silly restrictions on vehicle age.

They're German and you have to call Germany, but they speak better English than just about anyone you are going to get if you deal with a UK call centre. Break down in the UK and they send the AA.

They don't do recovery in the way we're used to from the AA/RAC - if you break down in Inverness and want to get home to Truro, you ain't going to, not immediately. There's a "budget" for towing, and you'll be towed no further than somewhere within that. You'll then get expenses (hotel or onward travel) paid, up to a budget. If your car can't be fixed within 3 days, THEN the car's going home.

Also, I've heard tell that they're not accepting new UK customers. I've never had it confirmed in the first person, "Yep, they refused me", though, just hearsay... Still worth a call.

I've heard that the AA link up from the ADAC is no longer available for new customers.

Apparently, they're honouring existing arrangements but new customers don't get AA anymore.

So who are they using in the UK for those customers? Or are they saying that there are some customers who get specific territory exclusions...?

Or try through CSMA http://www.csmaclub.co.uk - it's a bit like Costco, it's supposed to be a closed club, but most people can qualify somehow. You get motor legal cover free so you can drop that off your insurance and that covers the membership fee.

LV= car insurance is a bit cheaper through them, as well.

I had the CSMA membership until a couple of years ago and got let down quite badly by them...

- if you have the "deluxe" membership and you are abroad, they won't give you a hire car if you are already at your destination. I was also very much less than impressed with their actual foreign support. Luckily I found I had Mercedes Mobilo cover active.
- we go abroad in either the OHs car (V70), my car (SL500 back then) or our motorbikes. It was only a chance comment to the chap on the phone when renewing that brought to light that only the "primary" vehicle (my SL) is covered on the foreign use section; so for two years we had been blithely using the V70 and bikes (totalling several weeks use) with no cover.

The second point was a deal breaker for me - we've been with ADAC since.

ADAC have saved me abroad too, love their service and £75ish (whatever the € equiv is) is a bargain in my book!

Yes - but my point was that there has obviously been a rumour floating around the net regarding ADAC not accepting UK customers that predates my quoted post, so it's obviously not true.

That's a Britannia Rescue thing, and they've been part of LV for some years, since LV bought them from CSMA.

No idea about the scope of cover - I only mentioned CSMA as it's cheaper though them.


Glad Mobilo worked for you - their cover can get a bit vague once the car is a few years old, and they run multiple schemes and it's not always easy to figure out what you're covered for.
