Car with no airbags

Hi, I am interested in buying a Suzuki swift 2000 plate, due to tem being cheap and hopefully reliable, but am unsure about the fact that this car doesn't have air bags. Would this put people off buying a car?

Doesn't seem to bother the folks who buy classic cars.

Besides - The crumple zone in the Swift is probably your legs.

I had a fiesta mk3 with an airbag,lol! If I had hit so much as a badger I think it would have been bad news, but still I'm here and alive today.

Don't worry about it and just buy it if you want it.

Can airbags not cause as much trouble as there worth trapping people in cars etc? Or are they defiantly seen as valid now

It wouldn't bother me at all. In fact it's a positive for bangernomics as it's one less reason for an MOT fail.

Airbags are not balloons. They start to deflate almost immediately after deployment so no chance of being trapped.

On a side note, don't airbags have to replaced after 10 years or something anyway? Or have I made something up again?

How could an airbag trap someone in a car? They inflate then deflate in milliseconds.

I didn't realise you could get cars that late without airbags as standard.

The last car I had without at least one was a 1987 BMW 5 series.

Airbags are designed to be deflating as you impact with them, otherwise they would be quite hard. I think newer cars may have 'active' airbags which adjust filling speed and deflation dependent on speed and collision force.

I think they said that in the owner manuals of 90s cars but I think it has since been said that you don't need to worry about it as they are designed for the lifetime of the car.

I have owned a year 2000 swift(a 1.0cc sky model) and it had a drivers airbag. You sure it has none at all?

Every thing I read about the Suzuki swifts from 2000 is that there reliable, not much to go wrong on them as no fancy features power steering etc. But that there safety rating is very poor

An airbag won't trap you in a car. Did you learn about vehicle safety from watching The Naked Gun?
