Ok so you own a 996tt and you decide to go to go to a reputable indy.

If you opt for the 96k service, would you expect the fuel filter, the air filter and the poly rib belt to be changed?

You pay close to £750 for this service
service.. The bill with other work is £2450. The car is with the indy 4-5 days longer than expected due to their work load even though you booked three weeks in advance. This isn't a problem because you think your car is getting the best of the best.

How would you react to your oil gauge showing 2 bars after less than 500 miles, considering you have no engine issues or leaks?

Further investigation shows that the air filter, fuel filter and polyrib belt have not been touched.

You email the indy, who replies with I'll call you for a chat in the morning, but you reply requesting an email response so you can keep track of things.

Three days after the initial complaint was made still no response.

I'm not naming names, I'm being as fair as I can even though I'm pretty annoyed to say the least.

I'm not sure what the solution to this is, I'm not prepared to allow them to work on my car again as I simply don't trust them after this.

What would your angle of attack be? Taking it on the chin should not be an option, as far as I'm concerned I've paid for a service that has been half done!

Email them again, quoting the Trading Standards reference number you've just been given from the helpful woman on the phone.

Await phone call, where you tell them you expect a refund for the works not carried out.

Go visit them, sounds like they forgot to service your car after doing the other work.
Is the oil clean, hmm as the oil level had changed something went on.
The only recompense is to let them actually service it.

I can't check it, I have no dipstick, just the read out. My guess is they changed the oil but didn't top it up..
.

As said, I don't trust them to look after my car after this, I don't think I'm being unreasonable.

Request an itemized bill of service.

Cross check it with what you have told us and take it from there.

Normally when you have a service done the garage list what they have checked/cleaned/replaced and the cost for the products used.

Utterly unacceptable. I'd be fuming. In fact I am just reading this and it's not even my car.

Give them a chance to rectify, and if they don't, name and shame and take legal action.

(edit)

Sorry - just read the "not trusting them to work on the car" comment. Fair point. Is there another specialist you can take the car to, who you do trust, who can do an appraisal on the work that was supposed to be done vs what has actually been done?

I've checked my bill. The 96k service is mentioned on the invoice. But not these.items. On their site it says these items are included on the service.

I specifically told them to change the polyrib belt and asked them if it was covered under the major service which I specified which they confirmed.

The filter is a service item therefore in the regardless of condition it should have been changed. Just so happens it was begging for a change....

To be honest, this is why I DIY most of my stuff, have had cars come back from service with oil that looks like it hasn't been changed, have been waiting for a lift after dropping one off and it dissapearing sideways in a cloud of tyre smoke.

Would only bother now for warranty reasons, and none of my cars are new enough to worry about. Servicing to me is generally for those who aren't able to do it themselves, cant be arsed or want a stamp in a book.

That with the 911 is pretty shoddy, I think you have probably paid a lot of money, for not a lot, might be an oversight but I wouldn't expect something as basic as an air filter to be missed.

Open the oil filler cap, there should be a stick lurking in there somewhere.

I pinpointed this as a possible cause.to my chirping.

I pulled my airbox yesterday to replace the filter myself, which was when I noted the state of the belt.

The irony is, they did a full car evaluation.....

Odd. There should be a dip-stick inside the oil filler neck. If there isn't, I can only assume it's missing...

I've been pulled back into work for the next three days, so I have emailed the service manager to let them know if theres no offer of resolve by Monday then I will present my case to trading standards. It'll have been a week since I contacted them with my findings. So I think this is fair.

Not a valued customer unless you spend big money it would seem.

I took it to an ex employee of this company, he was utterly shocked and spent an hour of his time with me and the car, all round decent guy, he.recommended me a specialist in Wallingford which also has good reviews so booked in there. For the service and for the other work to be checked over

But it ain't brand new, that's for damn sure. £750 for a service and they don't even bother? Mental.

I can see your point especially with the filter and low oil level, but unless its a Porsche requirment I wouldnt expect the polyrib belt to be changed routinely on a service, many vehicles go there working lifetime without these belts ever being changed while other vehicles are prone to wearing them out.

Unless he's paid for it...
