Another "What Car" Thread

Hi folks, I've decided to part company with my current car and go for something more "adventurous" for lack of a better term.
I've asked my mates and colleagues about what car to go for and have done a bit of research into some of the cars I've had my eye on, but everyone I've asked hasn't been of any help.
Thought there would be no better place to settle this than on here as I would like the opinions on people who have owned said cars or have worked with them.
My budget is currently £2000.
The following cars I've been looking at are:
Skoda Octavia VRS MKI: Seen a few of these on ebay for around £1000-£1500, seems tempting to me as I work for Skoda and any faults that pop up won't be a problem and the space is a plus too.
I know it's a 1.8 turbocharged engine at 180bhp, but a lot of the advertised cars have been chipped or have had a remap.
Are they that sluggish without being tuned?
MX5 MKI/MKII: I have always fancied one of these and one of the guys I work with swears by the mk2 despite it's "girly" looks. I know that compared to some of the cars I've looked into, this is a proper drivers car and will probably give me some of the best fun on four wheels for the prices they're going for.
I know the engines are very reliable, being Japanese and whatnot with bland interiors and lack of options for the UK mk1 and rusty wheel arches to boot.
Mondeo ST200: I like the prospect of having a V6 to listen to when I start it up in the morning. Chain driven V6 that is quite reliable (unless someone says otherwise), I'm just wondering what the running costs were like for daily use?
Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo: Wouldn't mind going for one of these but would like to know what they're like as a daily driver and reliability seeing as Italian companies seem to have this reputation of being reliable...
Toyota Celica GT (ST204): Seems like a decent and sensible option compared to the above and I know I would probably regret buying it.
Toyota MR2 MK2: Like the looks and the performance but not so sure about the handling of the pre rev 3 models
I have considered a Clio 172/172 cup, HGT Abarth, ST170 to name but a few.
Again any opinions of the above cars would be great as I'm itching to try something differernt!
