BMW x2 2002 battery?

im asking for my son who needs a new battery for a bmw x5 3ltr petrol 2002.
he keeps getting conflicting answers from europarts and the like.
can anyone tell me exactly what he needs and if possible provide some links.
also should we fit this ourselves, we are not mechanically minded with today's cars but i used to do odd bits many moons back, i realise this can be a bit of a task but is it just awkward and not to technical.

Look at the battery fitted and see if there is a number such as 019 or 110 or some other 3 digit code. Measure the battery and note the dimensions.
Go to eurocarparts website and put in the reg. number and see what batteries are listed. Check the code number and the dimensions and if they match then buy one.
If they do not match then I suggest you take it somewhere to get one fitted.

the battery fitted is the wrong battery.
he only uses it weekends, most friday nights or saturday mornings there is not enough power to start it.
he has had it checked over and been told the only problem is a bad/wrong battery.

Has he checked the voltage when running the engine to make sure the alternator is charging it? Just another thought. There is (or was) a secret menu you can access on BMWs to see voltage.

i believe all that has been checked, not so sure about the secret menu but the electrics are all fine or so he tells me.
